Celtic have completed the signing of Chicago Fire academy product and 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy winner Andrew Gutman to a three and a half year deal, the club announced Thursday. Gutman signed alongside fellow national team prospect Manny Perez.
“When I realized Celtic FC wanted to sign me permanently, I was really honored," Gutman said, via the Scottish club. "I know Celtic is a huge name in football, they have tremendous supporters and it is a club where I believe I can flourish as a player."
The 22-year-old just wrapped up a stellar collegiate career at the University of Indiana. The attacking left back led the Hoosiers to this year's College Cup semifinals, was named National Player of the Year and First-Team Best XI honors from TopDrawerSoccer.com.
"For the immediate period I will be focusing on my loan in America where I look forward to playing as many matches as I can," Gutman said. "After that, I can’t wait to join Celtic and be part of such a storied institution.”
