After the New York Red Bulls declined his end-of-season loan option in November, midfielder Marc Rzatkowski will soon be back training with the club for preseason.

Rzatkowski, 28, made 24 appearances (16 starts) in his first MLS season in 2018, contributing 2 goals and 7 assists from the midfield. He joined from Red Bull Salzburg on loan. According to MLS Players Association, Rzatkowski was on a base salary of $885,000 and a guaranteed total compensation of $976,166.66.

The Red Bulls released their full preseason roster not long after announcing Rzatkowski would be with the team.

In December, after the Red Bulls declined his option, Rzatkowski talked vaguely about his future, in an interview with German outlet Liga-zwei.de (via Once a Metro).

"First and foremost, of course, I wish to stay healthy. Everything else will be seen," Rzatkowski said. "I feel very comfortable here in America. What comes out at the end, you will see. In any case, I can still imagine a lot for the future."

Could this mean a Red Bull return for Rzatkowski? Perhaps. Could it just be a player keeping fit as he decides his future? Perhaps.
