TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Reports
Acosta, 25, has spent the last year and a half with Spanish Segunda side CD Tenerife, with journalist Juanjo Ramos of local outlet El Dia reporting that the Canary Islands-based club is in the final stages of negotiations with FCD on a transfer fee of €2.8 million (US $3.2 million) for the player.
That would rank among the largest player transactions in FCD history, and represent a significant acquisition for new head coach Luchi Gonzalez as he prepares for his first season in charge of the North Texans. Dallas’ pursuit of Acosta has apparently run on for a month or more, with initial reports of their interest dating back to early December.
Currently sitting in 18th place in the 22-team LaLiga2, dangerously close to the relegation zone, Tenerife are keen to bring in reinforcements for the second half of their league campaign and plan to use the proceeds from Acosta’s sale to help fund that process, notes Ramos.
A regular for both Tenerife and Honduras in recent years, Acosta can fill a box-to-box midfield tasking but has also been used in playmaking and wide roles in Spain. He was a key member of the Catrachos side that made an underdog run to the semifinals of the 2016 Olympic men's soccer tournament.
