Currently in a career year, Jonathan Osorio won't be going anywhere.

Toronto FC announced on Thursday they have re-signed the midfielder to a multi-year contract extension.

“This is a proud moment for our club to be able to secure Jonathan on a long-term deal that is fitting for one of the top Canadian players in the world,” said Toronto FC senior vice president, soccer operations & general manager Tim Bezbatchenko in a team statement. “It should be evident to everyone how important Oso is to TFC, not only on the field where he’s established himself as one of our team’s key players, but also off the field where he represents the city of Toronto as one of its own, a local kid who grew a TFC fan and fulfilled his dream of playing for the first team.”

Osorio, a Homegrown signing for TFC in 2013, has made 164 appearances in MLS regular season play to date, scoring 22 goals and 26 assists from a versatile midfield role. One of the few players to have survived the transition from Toronto's historic struggles to the recent triumphs the past few years, 2018 has unquestionably been the best season to date for the 26-year-old, as he has scored nine goals and five assists in league play, and has tallied 16 goals across all competitions. He was the top scorer in the 2018 Concacaf Champions League, helping lead Toronto to the final of that competition.

With his contract set to run out at the end of the season, there had been speculation in recent weeks that Osorio would be a hot commodity among clubs abroad, but the Brampton, Ontario native appears set to stay with his hometown club.

“It’s an amazing feeling to re-sign for the club that I love. This club and city mean everything to me and my family and for that reason I chose to stay and help bring more trophies and success to Toronto FC,” said Osorio. “I want to help make Toronto FC recognized worldwide. It’s a big challenge but I know that I am up for it. I want to thank everyone at the club for helping to get this deal finalized.”
