Orlando coach Jason Kreis: "We need players to say enough is enough"

The losses keep mounting for Orlando City SC and so, too, does the frustration for Lions coach Jason Kreis.

Orlando dropped their fifth straight game Saturday as the 10-man Lions fell to Vancouver Whitecaps FC, 5-2, at BC Place.

It was another game Orlando (6-7-1), who Kreis said played “90 percent well,” were punished for their mistakes after a positive start.

“We start the game dictating things, then we give the ball away one time, and they go right down the field to score on their first chance,” Kreis said after the match. “It’s too many times that we’re making critical mistakes at critical moments, too many decisions are going against us. We need to focus on that 10 percent.”

Even after Mohamed El-Munir was sent off for his second bookable offense in the 58th minute, Orlando found the equalizer by Sacha Kljestan. But Alphonso Davies ignited a four-goal explosion in the final 14 minutes before a cosmetic goal by Dom Dwyer, who came on as a substitute after missing three straight games due to an injury.

“We need players to step forward. We need players to say enough is enough.” Kreis said. “I think that we are going to have to talk to individual players about their performance. We have to expect more, and we have to demand more. Again, it’s not to say everything is bad, because it’s not. There are a lot of positive things, but at the end of the day, we need that 10 percent.”
