Alphonso Davies — MLS Player of the Week, Week 15

Alphonso Davies made a little bit of history over the weekend as the youngest player in league history to record three assists in a match as well as the youngest player to factor into a combined four goals and assists.

Now, the 17-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder has been named the Alcatel Major League Soccer Player of the Week, in a vote by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 15 of the 2018 season.

Davies made his mark in a big way in the Whitecaps’ 5-2 home rout of Orlando City SC on Saturday, logging one goal and three assists.

His first helper came on a counter in the 36th minute as the Canadian international showed off his speed, dribbled past multiple defenders, and laid it off to Kei Kamara for a goal. After Orlando tied it at 1-1, Davies banged home a 76th-minute rebound right in front of the net.

He added two assists in the final minutes, on a counterattacking goal from Yordy Reyna and another from Nicolas Mezquida, to become the first Whitecaps player to ever record three assists in one match.

On the season, the 17-year-old now has two goals and seven assists, the latter of which is tied for third in MLS. Davies and the Whitecaps, who sit fourth in the West with a 6-5-5 overall record, return to MLS play on June 23 vs. the Philadelphia Union at Talen Energy Stadium (5 pm ET | TSN — Full TV & Streaming Info).

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is chosen each week of the regular season by members of the North American Soccer Reporters. The organization includes print, television, radio and online journalists who cover domestic men's soccer in the United States and Canada.
