Cory Burke scored early to snap a 241-minute team goalless drought, Haris Medunjanin pounced late and the Philadelphia Union defeated the Montreal Impact 2-0 on Saturday afternoon for their first away victory of 2018.
The Union defeated a struggling Impact side despite not fielding forward CJ Sapong (left hip/quad) and winger David Accam (coach's decision) in their starting XI, and despite briefly going down a man after Burke was sent off for his challenge on Samuel Piette early in the second half.
But the game returned to even strength nine minutes later when referee Kevin Stott dismissed Montreal's Daniel Lovitz – after Video Review – for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
It was just the latest of many self-inflicted wounds for the Impact, who have now lost eight of their 11 matches under first-year coach Remi Garde and six of their last seven.

It wasn't pretty, but Philadelphia won't care how the away wins come, given this was their first in 364 days. As for Montreal, they are in danger of already having to turn an eye toward next season already as their late-game defensive woes continue. They've conceded a stunning 15 of their MLS-worst 26 goals after the 70th minute.
