Goal of the Matchday

Solo golazo by Sporting KC's Johnny Russell wins AT&T Goal of the Week

It upstaged Zlatan Ibrahimovic's second MLS match and vanquished his LA Galaxy side on their own turf, so it's fitting that it inherits Ibra's GOTW mantle, too.

In a tight race for Week 6 AT&T Goal of the Week honors, Johnny Russell's skillful goal for Sporting Kansas City has edged out Dom Dwyer's dramatic late game-winner for Orlando City SC by a margin of just six percentage points, Russell's effort garnering 46 percent to Dwyer's 40 percent.

Russell's second MLS goal saw him cheekily split LA defenders Ashley Cole and Daniel Steres on the dribble before poking a short-range finish underneath advancing goalkeeper David Bingham to cap Sunday's 2-0 win over the Galaxy at StubHub Center. An offseason arrival from English side Derby County, the Scottish winger has already netted two goals and two assists for streaking Sporting, who have climbed into first place in the MLS Western Conference.

New England's Andrew Farrell finished in third place in the GOTW polling for his first career MLS goal (11%), while FC Dallas' Cristian Colman (2%) and San Jose's Magnus Eriksson (1%) rounded out the field.
