Vancouver Whitecaps FC 0, LA Galaxy 0 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

The LA Galaxy only dressed 17 players – including three goalkeepers – for their match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, but played to a 0-0 draw at BC Place.

The match was a defensive duel throughout, with both teams frequently stepping into passing lanes and making stops before chances would turn into shots. Probably the best chance of the match came in the 39th minute, as Yordy Reyna's opportunity on a breakaway from the left channel was blocked by an onrushing David Bingham.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: On paper, it looked like Vancouver could run up the score on the Galaxy, especially with the visitors' shorthanded lineup due to injuries and international call-ups as well as the short bench. But the visitors put in a gritty shift to get a result, while the Whitecaps will be disappointed their attack never quite got off the ground.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH
: Chances were few and far between on the night, but Bingham's block on Reyna was the play that made the difference between a win or loss for the teams, and a draw for both sides.

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Several defenders came up with strong performances on both sides, including Jorgen Skjelvik, Jose Aja and Jake Nerwinski. But based on the context and his defensive and distribution statistics on the night, Galaxy defender Daniel Steres gets the nod for an unflashy, steady performance.
