The LA Galaxy added to their goalkeeper corps with the announcement on Friday they have signed Brian Sylvestre. The 25-year-old joins from North Carolina FC, where he's played most of the past three seasons.

ā€œBrian has a lot of potential and is a good addition to our depth,ā€ said LA Galaxy head coach Sigi Schmid in a team statement. ā€œHe has a big frame and we look forward to his development in our organization.ā€

Sylvestre, a Florida native, began his professional career in 2011 with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Serving as a reserve there, he didn't make any appearances in MLS play, before moving on to USL side Harrisburg City Islanders in 2013. After two seasons there, he joined the Carolina RailHawks in 2015, the team that eventually rebranded to North Carolina FC.

Sylvestre is probably best known in MLS for his loan stint in 2015 with the Philadelphia Union. Brought in as an emergency option due to a rash of injuries among the team's goalkeepers, he played 12 games that season for the team, posting five shutouts.

The Galaxy have also picked up former San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham this offseason, and Sylvestre will likely be a backup option to Bingham in 2018.
