US U-17s lose to England to open tournament play

Gianluca Busio - Sporting Kansas City

The US national team Under-17 team opened the 2017 Nike International Friendlies tournament in Florida on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to England's U-17s.

A late goal off a corner kick from Taylor Harwood-Bellis was the difference in the match, but by all accounts the match was a tense and closely-fought affair.

One standout for the USMNT was Chicago Fire academy goalkeeper Damien Las, who had several impressive saves in the match to keep the hosts in the game. Sporting KCHomegrown signing Gianluca Busio (pictured above) also had a good chance early in the US attack, but was thwarted by England's goalkeeper. Atlanta United Homegrown signing George Bello served as captain for the U-17s.

The US will next face the Netherlands U-17s on Friday at 7 pm ET. The game will be streamed on USsoccer.com, US Soccer's Facebook page, and YouTube.
