Now, Nemanja Nikolic has the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award for Week 32 in the bag, too.
The Chicago Fire striker won the honor for his first strike in the Fire’s 3-2 win against Philadelphia on Sunday. The Hungarian international got on the board in the 3rd minute, running onto a Brandon Vincent long ball on the left flank, racing past Union center back Jack Elliott and coolly slotting home past Andre Blake to give the Fire a 1-0 lead.
The tally earned 47 percent of the Goal of the Week vote. Sebastian Blanco finished second -- and third(!) -- for his two goals in the Timbers’ 4-0 win against D.C. United, while Portland teammate Alvas Powell finished fourth with 7 percent of the vote and LA Galaxy attacker Romain Alessandrini rounded out the field with 4 percent.
Nikolic and the Fire travel to Houston on Sunday (4 pm ET; MLS LIVE) for Decision Day presented by AT&T. Their clash with the Dynamo holds playoff implications in both conferences: Third-place Chicago will clinch the second-seed in the East and avoid the Knockout Round if they beat the Dynamo and NYCFC loses or draws against Columbus; Houston can host their Knockout Round matchup with a victory and some help.
