East beast: Toronto keep rolling


Justin Morrow bagged his first career brace as Toronto FC patiently disposed of Saturday guests Portland in a 4-1 home win that kept them four points up in the Supporters' Shield race. RECAP


New York City FC kept pace, climbing into second place in the East thanks to a 2-0 road win over the LA Galaxy. Sean Johnson came up with several big stops, and was rewarded for his efforts by goals from Jonathan Lewis and David Villa. RECAP


Out West: Change at the top


Houston moved into the Western Conference penthouse following a 3-0 win over visiting San Jose on Saturday night. Alberth Elis and Vicente Sanchez led the way by each notching a goal and an assist. RECAP


Meanwhile, MLS Cup holders Seattle continued their hot streak with a 1-0 home victory that knocked Sporting KC off the Western summit. The Sounders climbed into second place while extending their shutout run to 400 minutes. RECAP


RSL back in playoff chase


Picking up where they left off when Saturday night's inclement weather hit, Real Salt Lake came back the next day to finish their match against D.C. United, completing a 1-0 win at RFK Stadium on Sunday. RSL moved to within three points of the final playoff slot by posting their first three-game away win streak in over four years. RECAP


Newcomers make a fast difference


Paul Arriola made his highly-anticipated D.C. United debut on Sunday, but arguably no newcomer left a greater first impression than Montreal's Samuel Piette. Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle noted how the fine debut display of the new Impact midfielder helped Montreal render Philly Union hot hand C.J. Sapong invisible in their 3-0 win at Talen Energy Stadium.
