Darlington Nagbe’s injury doesn’t appear to be as severe as initially feared, as Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl reported on Tuesday that the Timbers and US national team attacker suffered a medial ankle sprain and contusion as a result of a Nigel de Jong tackle in Portland’s 1-1 draw at LA on Sunday

Wahl reported on Monday that Nagbe did not suffer any broken bones due to the challenge and that there is no timeline on his return to the field.

Nagbe was hurt in the 73rd minute of Sunday’s match, when de Jong missed the ball on a challenge and came down directly on Nagbe’s left ankle. Nagbe was stretchered off the field following the tackle, and de Jong was shown a yellow card for the challenge.
