Vancouver Whitecaps center back Christian Dean will be out three to four months after undergoing surgery on his left foot on Wednesday, the club announced.

Dean, 22, injured his left foot in training last week and had surgery on Wednesday to repair a fifth metatarsal fracture.

The No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Dean has made nine MLS appearances in his career. He was a major part of the Whitecaps’ 2015 CONCACAF Champions League and Amway Canadian Championship runs, starting all four of the club’s CCL matches and playing in three ACC gamees to help Vancouver to their first Voyageurs Cup.
