Vancouver Whitecaps' Sebastian Fernandez edges Robbie Keane for Player of the Week nod

It was the battle of the braces in Week 30, but Sebastian Fernandez ultimately came out on top.


The Vancouver Whitecaps hero was voted the MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters on Monday, edging LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane by a single vote. Both players had two-goal outings in wins for their respective clubs, but Fernandez claimed five votes to Keane's four to become the firstWhitecaps player to win the award this season.


Fernandez set the tone for the victory that kept Vancouver in a playoff spot in the Western Conference, scoring twice inside of the first 18 minutes of a 2-0 win over FC Dallas. He first netted on a header in the 14th minute, and then finished off a counterattack with a solid finish four minutes later.
