Landon Donovan beats Lee Nguyen to claim second straight MLS Player of the Week honor

Landon Donovan is closing in on MLS' all-time assists record. For now, he will have to make due with another Player of the Week award.

The red-hot Donovan was voted the MLS Player of the Week for the second successive week on Monday for his dominant performance in the LA Galaxy's 6-0 demolition of the Colorado Rapids. The Galaxy star led the team to that lopsided victory, scoring two goals from the penalty spot and assisting on two others in LA's fifth consecutive win. (See how NASR voted here.)

Donovan, who is four assists away from tying Steve Ralston's record of 135, edged Lee Nguyen for the Week 26 honors. Both Donovan and Nguyen had three first-place votes, but Donovan edged the New England Revolution midfielder by a second place vote (2-1). Nguyen compiled two goals and one assist in a pair of matches that the Revolution won last week.
