Colorado Rapids forward Edson Buddle joined rare company in Major League Soccer on Wednesday night, becoming just the eighth player in league history to score 100 career regular season goals.
Buddle scored his 100th goal in the 17th minute of Colorado’s 4-3 loss to the LA Galaxy at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on a wide-open header off a Dillon Powers corner kick. The goal was the second this season for the 33-year-old Buddle, who has now scored seven goals for the Rapids since joining the club last season.
Buddle scored 45 of his goals during a wildly successful stretch with the Galaxy between 2007-10 and 2012, including a career-high 17 goals in 2010 that helped put him on the United States’ World Cup team in South Africa.
He also scored 42 goals over his first five seasons in the league with the Columbus Crew, and six with the New York Red Bulls in 2006.
San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski leads all other active players under the century mark with 88 career regular season goals, tied for 9th all-time.
