American Exports: Jonathan Spector battles ankle injury for Birmingham City

Birmingham City's Jonathan Spector

AMSTERDAM – Birmingham City handyman Jonathan Spector is again day-to-day after suffering a recurrence of an ankle injury in last Saturday's draw with Millwall.

Back in action after missing two games with the injury, the US international was removed from midfield near halftime after going down from a challenge. Now, Spector could face a late fitness check as the Brums get set to visit Zak Whitbread's Leicester City on Friday.

"It looks as though it's one that is under on-going assessment," Birmingham press officer Andy Walker told MLSsoccer.com by phone on Thursday. "It was just an innocuous tackle against Milwall and Jonathan went down in a heap. He must have taken a whack or fallen awkwardly on his previous ankle injury."

Despite missing time to several injuries, Spector has started in 25 of his 29 Championship appearances this term, with time split between right back and central midfield.

With seven games remaining on the season, Birmingham stand 13th, six points clear of the relegation mire and nine shy of the promotion playoff zone.
