Three months and out: New York Red Bulls waive forward Josue Martinez

The New York Red Bulls have waived forward Josué Martínez, the club announced Friday.

The Costa Rican attacker made just one substitute apperance for the Red Bulls after moving over from the Philadelphia Union in the offseason, in exchange for Sébastien Le Toux. New York also received allocation money in the deal.

“We spoke with Josué and think that this is a mutually beneficial decision,” Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement. “We want to wish Josué the best of luck in the next stage of his career.”

Despite Martínez's departure, the Red Bulls maintained their depth at forward by acquiring Andre Akpan from the Colorado Rapids earlier this week.
