Save of the Week

Rimando repeats as MLS save king with Week 9 award

Nick Rimando, Real Salt Lake, makes a save against the New England Revolution, May 5, 2012.

Nick Rimando does it again.

The Real Salt Lake netminder repeated as MLS Save of the Week winner with his stop on a shot by New England forward Fernando Cárdenas voted by the fans as best of Week 9.

The 32-year-old Rimando has now captured four of the nine Save of the Week awards handed out in 2012 and he even had a second save on this week's ballot which came in third place.

The veteran's performance against the Revs also won Rimando high praise from his manager Jason Kreis: “For me, Nick got us the three points. Without him in goal, we probably would be walking away with one.”

The 71st-minute save on Cárdenas, which preserved RSL's 2-1 win, beat out the stunning save by San Jose's Jon Busch on Dwayne De Rosario's overhead kick.
