Are you ready for some football? Jay DeMerit and Ben Zemanski are – but before First Kick, there’s the small matter of the Big Game.
Within MLS ranks, you won’t find bigger fans of the teams facing off in Super Bowl XLV on Sunday. Vancouver center back and World Cup veteran DeMerit is a native Cheesehead, born and bred in Green Bay (he's currently sporting a playoff beard for his beloved Packers). Chivas USA second-year midfielder Zemanski was raised in Akron, Ohio, but was born in Pittsburgh and comes from a family full of proud members of Steeler Nation.
DeMerit’s proudest moment off a soccer field? Leading Lambeau Field last month in the traditional fourth-quarter sing-along of “Roll out the Barrel.” Zemanski’s first offseason priority? Clearing his calendar for an annual trip to Heinz Field.
