Weekly update: Let's play two

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake (4-10-4, 16 pts. 6th West) hits the field for two home games this week looking rebound from a crushing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Western Conference leaders FC Dallas (11-5-3, 36 pts., 1st West) at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday. RSL controlled the flow of play for much of the match, only to see their effort wasted by virtue of a goal by Dallas FW Abe Thompson in the 93rd minute of play. The match official had indicated three minutes of stoppage time, so the goal was literally scored in the game's final seconds.

WESTERN CONFERENCE RIVAL CHIVAS USA COMES TO TOWN: RSL's first game this week is a critical match against Western Conference rival Chivas USA (7-6-4, 25 pts. T-3rd West) at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Wednesday, July 26 with a kickoff time of 7:00 p.m. MT. Chivas is currently tied for third place overall with the Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference standings and leads the season series with RSL, having captured four points from the two matches between the clubs compared to one point for Real Salt Lake.

On April 2nd, Real Salt Lake's first game of the 2006 season, Chivas captured a convincing 3-0 victory at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. behind two goals from FW Ante Razov and one from MF Juan Pablo Garcia. The two teams met again at Rice-Eccles Stadium on July 4th in front of 20,752 fans, this time with the game ending 0-0. The match featured several close scoring chances for RSL, including two goals called back on off-sides calls, but neither team was able to find the back of the net and the game ended in a scoreless draw.

READY FOR FREDDY: The second home match this week for RSL features Eastern Conference leader D.C. United, currently the best team in MLS with a record of 13-1-6 (45 pts., 1st East).
