WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United forward Alecko Eskandarian has earned Sierra Mist 'Goal of the Week' honors, following his thunderous volley versus the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, May 13. Eskandarian's fourth goal of the 2006 campaign came in the 12th minute of play, when Christian Gomez lofted a ball over the KC defense and directly into the path of the striker's powerful left foot. Eskandarian struck the ball out of the air and sent it flying past stunned goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi. The tally earned an overwhelming 80% of the votes on MLSnet.com.

Eskandarian is the second United player to earn the Sierra Mist 'Goal of the Week' this year, as Facundo Erpen took home Week 4 honors. The 23-year old is no stranger to the award, having won it a League-high four times in 2004 (Weeks 1, 12, 14 & 25). He has won the award more than any other player in MLS since the inception of the honor at the beginning of the 2004 season.

After missing most of 2005 with post-concussion syndrome, Eskandarian has made an impressive comeback this year. He is second in MLS with four goals and 19 shots and leads the League with 15 shots on goal.
