Weekly update: Huge Crew road trip

Chris Henderson

The Crew is on the road twice this week as they face FC Dallas and the Chicago Fire. Wednesday's game at FC Dallas marks the first time The Crew will visit the new Pizza Hut Park, only the third soccer-specific stadium to be built in the United States, with Crew Stadium being the first. After Dallas on Wednesday, The Crew remains on the road taking on Chicago on Saturday at Soldier Field.

The Crew (10-15-4, 34 pts.) is 6-5-2 under Interim Head Coach Robert Warzycha after losing to Chivas USA 1-0 at home on Saturday. FC Dallas (12-10-7, 43 pts.) sits in third-place in the Western Conference after a 2-1 road loss to the L.A. Galaxy on Saturday. Dallas has already clinched a spot in the playoffs. Chicago (15-11-3, 48 pts.) is in third-place in the East after defeating Kansas City 1-0 on the road on Saturday. Columbus is nine points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with just three games left. Kansas City needs just one point in its last two games to eliminate The Crew from playoff contention.

Wednesday's and Saturday's games will be televised locally on the Ohio News Network, while Saturday's game will also be televised nationally on Fox Soccer Channel. Both can be heard in English on 103.9, TED-FM. The games can be heard on-line in English at TheCrew.com and MSLnet.com.

The tryout will be an all-day affair, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the evening session ending at 6 p.m. Select members of the Crew coaching staff will be in attendance throughout the day to assess and evaluate the entire player pool. As part of that evaluation process, the coaching staff will reserve the right to dismiss candidates at any time throughout the day. College players will not be eligible to participate in the tryout. There is no pre-registration, just show up on the day of the tryout.

All tryout participants will receive a tryout shirt that is theirs to keep. There will be a $50 administrative fee per player, which must be paid in cash or check prior to the first training session. All proceeds from participation in the Crew open tryout will benefit the club's charitable arm, the Crew Soccer Foundation. Individuals wishing to try out are solely responsible for any and all accommodations and transportation they deem necessary. They are also responsible for their own training gear, such as cleats and shin guards and anything else they might need to perform to the best of their abilities. Players must also bring their own ball.
