Mulrooney, Ekelund lead Quakes' Best XI vote

the second highest total amongst all players.

Brian Mullan remains in third place amongst midfielders with 56 percent, while Eddie Lewis is threatening to round out the midfield for the all-time team. Manny Lagos, Ramiro Corrales and Dominic Kinnear all would need a large late surge to push their way into the team.

Former San Jose star Landon Donovan has received 58 percent of the fans vote, giving him the fourth highest total behind Mulrooney, Ekelund and former defender Jeff Agoos (59 percent). Donovan is the top Quakes forward, leading San Jose's all-time goals and assists leader Ronald Cerritos, who is in second with 44 percent of the vote. Brian Ching, the Quakes leading goal-scorer in 2004, trails his teammate for the final forward spot, while Eric Wynalda is in fourth place with 27 percent of the votes.

The Earthquakes former captain Jeff Agoos has collected the third highest percentage amongst all players with 59 percent of the vote, and leads all defenders. Quakes fans have shown their affection for "The Beast", Troy Dayak, giving him 51 percent of the vote, while Wade Barrett (40 percent) and the inaugural member of the Earthquakes Hall of Fame John Doyle (38 percent) round out the leaders for the San Jose Best XI defense. If you are a Jimmy Conrad or Eddie Robinson fan, start voting now, as those two defenders will need a strong late run to make the cut.

The goalkeeper race was bound to be close, as current Quakes 'keeper Pat Onstad has put together another masterful year and could be on the cusp of his second MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award. However, it is the man who won the Quakes first Goalkeeper of the Year trophy and first MLS Cup who is leading the pack, as Joe Cannon has earned 57 percent of the fans votes. Onstad, who has put together a 33-17-26 record since 2003, has received 36 percent of the votes.

The voting on sjearthquakes.com runs through the club's last regular season game on Oct. 15, and the all-time San Jose Earthquakes Best XI will be announced following the end of the regular season.
