There are just two weeks left in the season and the Supporters' Shield is down to just two teams: the Seattle Sounders and the LA Galaxy.
Lucky for us, those two teams will decide who wins it on the field as they get set for two nationally televised home-and-home match-ups over the next two weeks to close out the regular season. Seattle visit LA on Sunday (Oct. 19, 8:15 pm ET on ESPN2 and TSN2) and the two teams will then head up to Seattle the following Saturday (Oct. 25, 2:30 pm ET on NBC and TSN2).
Both teams currently sit on 60 points, making for the most combined points two teams have ever had entering an MLS regular-season match.
The Sounders can win the first Shield in club history if they win either of the two games since they would claim the tiebreaker in the case both teams finish the season tied on points. This year, the first tiebreaker is total wins and the Sounders currently have two more (19) than the Galaxy (17).
In order for the Galaxy to win the Shield for the first time since 2011, they will need at least a win AND a tie over the two games. If they succeed, they will go into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed with an undefeated record against the Sounders in 2014.
Seattle vs. LA -- two of the biggest and most successful clubs in MLS and thus far in 2014 they also happen to be the best. The ingredients are all there for the league to witness arguably the two biggest regular season matches in its history.
