Career Summary

Entering his sixth MLS season, Burpo was acquired prior to the start of the 2010 season to provide veteran leadership to the club, and also a solid goalkeeping option while Matt Reis recovers from off-season surgery ... spent nine years with the Seattle Sounders as one of the top goalkeepers in the USL First Division ... Burpo provides a veteran presence in the back and anchored a 3-0-1 month of September play in 2008 for Chivas USA.

2009: Started 11 games in goal and had a record of 1-4-6 with 23 saves and a 1.45 goals against average for the Colorado Rapids. Posted his only shutout of the season in 0-0 draw at KC (Sept. 26). Started his first game at Toronto (Sept. 12) since April 25. Registered a shutout with three saves in friendly against Mexican power Club America (July 15) in a friendly. Started at Seattle (May 26) in the Rapids’ second U.S. Open Cup play-in match, making four saves in the 0-1 loss. Saved two PKs in penalty kick shootout victory (0-0, 4-2) over Los Angeles in a U.S. Open Cup play-in match on April 7. Earned his first start of the year at the LA Galaxy (April 4), earning the win.


2008: Burpo was signed by Colorado in May while Bouna Coundoul was away with the Senegalese National team. Made his first start for Colorado in their Open Cup play-in game on 5/27, just a week after joining the squad. On the year, recorded three shutouts and posted a 5-6-2 record and a 1.85 GAA with the first team highlighted by a 3-0-1 month of play in September. Started three Rapids Reserve games.


2007: Appeared in three games for Chivas USA, posting a 1-1-1 record and a goals against average of 1.00. Made season debut on 6/3 vs. NE and made two saves to notch a shutout in 2-0 win. Recorded three saves, but allowed two goals at DAL on 7/4. Had a season high eight saves on the road at NE to secure a 1-1 tie.


2006: Joined Chivas USA on March 17 after nine years with the Seattle Sounders. Played 19 regular-season games for Chivas USA (starting 19), logging a total of 1,710 minutes and registering a 1.21 GAA. Did not appear in the playoffs.


2000-01: Spent time on the roster of both the Kansas City Wizards and Colorado Rapids, but did not see action in a game.


Non-MLS: Spent parts of nine seasons (1997-2005) with the Seattle Sounders. Logged 2,430 minutes for the 2005 USL-1 champion Seattle Sounders, registering 124 saves ... placed in the top three in several statistical categories- second in shutouts with 12; third in wins with 11; first in saves with 124 and he recorded the second best GAA at .851 … named to the 2005 USL First Div. All-League Second Team, his second all-league selection … Sounders' leader in several all-time goalkeeper statistics including games played (143), saves (631) and minutes (12,846) and posted a career GAA of 1.19 … recorded 20 shutouts from 2004-2005, Burpo helped the Sounders capture the 2004 A-League Western Conference Championship and the USL First Div. Championship in 2005 … before joining the Sounders in 1997, played professional soccer with the Boston Storm and New Hampshire Phantoms of the United States Interregional Soccer League (USISL), and also played internationally with Harbor View of the Jamaican First Division.


COLLEGE: Was a four-year member of the New Hampshire College (now Southern University of New Hampshire) soccer team and became the first goalkeeper in the program's proud history to earn NSCAA All-Region honors in 1992 after leading the Penmen to a 20-3-1 record and the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament … ranks fifth among SNHU's all-time leaders in career shutouts (17).


PERSONAL: Enjoys cycling and hiking in his free time … two brothers, John and Brent, and two sisters, Tara and Melissa … parents are John and Frederica … favorite food is chicken and rice, a Jamaican dish … nicknamed "Stone" … likes to hit the beach on his off days … says he would be a professional frisbee golfer (frolfer) if not playing soccer.
