2021: Greene joined D.C. United as the 15th Homegrown signing in club history on November 25, 2020. Following his signing with D.C. United, the 18-year-old rejoined the Black-and-Red’s USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC, on loan for the 2021 season. With Loudoun, Greene made 24 appearances (17 starts), scored one goal, and logged 1,556 minutes.

Previous Experience

2020: Greene was signed as a Homegrown Player by D.C. United on Nov. 25, 2020. The 17-year-old defender spent his last two seasons as a member of Loudoun United FC, appearing in seven matches for them in 2019 and eight matches in 2020. Greene is a natural left outside back but appeared for Loudoun United on both the right and left sides.D.C. United have signed D.C. United Academy product and Loudoun United FC defender Jacob Greene as the 15th Homegrown Signing in club history. The 17-year-old joins Bill Hamid, Moses Nyeman, Kevin Paredes, Donovan Pines, and Griffin Yow on the list of Academy products currently playing for the Black-and-Red.

“We have been monitoring Jacob’s development from his days in the D.C. United Academy through his time with our USL affiliate, Loudoun United FC,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. “Towards the end of the season, Jacob was consistently training with the first team and has proven that he has what it takes to make the jump to the next level. Jacob is another example of how valuable Loudoun United has been for developing young players and getting them important professional minutes.”

Born in Crofton, Md., Greene joined the D.C. United Academy in 2014 and has represented the Black-and-Red for various age groups. The defender appeared in 113 games (99 starts) for the Academy; scoring nine goals before signing with the Black-and-Red’s USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC, in their inaugural season in 2019.

Greene made his professional debut for Loudoun United on July 29, 2019 in a 3-0 win against Louisville City FC. In total, Greene has made 15 appearances and totaled 1,195 professional minutes in the USL Championship.

The D.C. United Academy remains one of the most successful youth systems for developing soccer players in the United States. The Black-and-Red now have six Homegrown Players on their current roster in Jacob Greene, Moses Nyeman, Kevin Paredes, Griffin Yow, Donovan Pines, and Bill Hamid. Hamid has recorded the most minutes played as a Homegrown Player in MLS history (22,119 minutes played).
