Wizards 1, Crew 0 -- quote sheet

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 1, COLUMBUS CREW 0

COLUMBUS CREW HEAD COACH SIGI SCHMID

On the game:
"Just not acceptable. Not acceptable to lose on a late goal like that, to lose your concentration. I don't think it was our best game. Probably 0-0 today would have been OK. I thought Kansas City, based on the 90 minutes, was probably a little bit the better team than we were. To give up a goal that late is unacceptable and something we can't do."

On goalkeeper Noah Palmer:
"I thought he did all right tonight."

On what went wrong:
"It seemed like we spent all day watching World Cup games. We were lethargic. I didn't think we came out with a lot of energy. We didn't come out with a lot of pep and vigor in our game. I thought it got a little bit better in the second half. There were a number of guys that were below par."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH BOB GANSLER

On the game:
"We found a way to win. We've been close the last four or five games. The soccer gods don't always give you what you deserve. I thought we played well enough to win. Being on the road makes us feel even better. We had quite a few first- and second-year players who were getting their opportunities. I'm probably more thrilled than they are about their performance."

On the result:
"Winning is always important. I am not one of these individuals that says 'this is the biggest game of the season and that's the biggest.' We are a third of the way along the marathon right now."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS DEFENDER JOSE BURCIAGA, JR.

On the game:
"Coach knows what I am capable of going forward. He has the confidence that I will get back. It is just like playing a 4-4-2 but I get to start a little bit higher than usual. I thought our back line played extremely well today. We mixed it up a little bit and we knew what we had to do. We had to play the whole 90 (minutes). We battled and luckily we got the goal."
