Weston McKennie scores memorable goal for Juventus vs. FC Barcelona in Champions League clash

Weston McKennie - Juventus v Barcelona - Champions League

In a landmark moment for American soccer, two US teammates featured in today’s UEFA Champions League match between Serie A’s Juventus and La Liga side Barcelona: Sergio Dest lined up as right back for Barca, while midfielder Weston McKennie featured for Juve.

And just days after his first Serie A goal, former FC Dallas academy product McKennie blasted a flying volley past goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to put his club up 2-0 after just 20 minutes of play. It was the American's first UCL goal since Oct. 3, 2018, and one of the most memorable moments ever for an American in Europe's top competition.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the other two for Juventus in the form of penalty kicks in the 13th and 52nd minutes for a 3-0 win over Lionel Messi and company. The game was a head-to-head match for the top spot in Group G, with Juventus going on to the knockout phase as group winners.
