Galaxy Team Notes

POSTSEASON SCHEDULE BEGINS FOR GALAXY: Sunday's Charity Match with Hollywood United will be the first of five postseason friendlies for the Galaxy in November and early December, which will be played in four different countries. One day after the game against Hollywood United, the team will board a flight to Vancouver for next Wednesday's game against the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Galaxy will then be back in action on Sunday, Nov. 11 when they take on the Minnesota Thunder at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

The players will then receive nearly two weeks off before flying to Australia on Nov. 23 for a game there against Sydney FC on Nov. 27 and a game in New Zealand in on Dec. 1 against Wellington Phoenix.

COBI NOMINATED FOR FAIR PLAY AWARD: Galaxy legend Cobi Jones has been named as one of three finalists for Major League Soccer's Fair Play Award. Jones, who has never before won an individual year-end award in MLS, is joined by fellow finalists Michael Parkhurst (New England Revolution) and another 12-year veteran who is retiring, Eddie Pope.

Jones, who is the all-time leader in fouls suffered in MLS, appeared in 25 games for the Galaxy this season, committing just nine fouls in 1,679 minutes of action. In the last two years, Jones has committed just 18 fouls in 52 games and has not been shown either a yellow or red card.

BUDDLE AND KLEIN UP FOR GOAL OF THE YEAR: On Thursday, Major League Soccer announced the 34 finalists for the 2007 Sierra Mist Goal of the Year. The field was made up of the 29 Goal of the Week winners and five additional nominees. Two Galaxy players were nominated as Edson Buddle and Chris Klein both find themselves in consideration for the award.

Buddle's goal against Toronto FC was the Goal of the Week winner for Week 28 as he finished off a Chris Klein cross, giving LA a 2-1 win over his former club.

Klein's goal, which came against FC Dallas on Sept. 23, was not a Goal of the Week winner but was selected as one of the five additional nominees. With the game tied 1-1 late in the second half, Klein ripped a right-footed shot into the top corner of the goal, giving the Galaxy a 2-1 win, which was the first of their five straight victories.

KLEIN MAKES HISTORY IN 2007: Thanks in large to the Galaxy's schedule which saw the team play 18 of their 30 regular season games after the All-Star break, Galaxy defender Chris Klein became just the second player in MLS history to appear in more games than are on the schedule. Between his time with the Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, who traded Klein to LA on June 21, Klein appeared in 32 games this season, though each of the 13 MLS teams only played 30 regular season contests.

Klein played in 11 games for RSL before the trade and then appeared in all 21 of the Galaxy's regular season games after the deal, giving him 32 games played. The only other player ever to appear in more games than were scheduled was defender Jay Heaps who played 28 games with the Miami Fusion and New England Revolution. That season, no team played more than 28 games, allowing Heaps to lead the league in games played.

GALAXY SET NEW ATTENDANCE MARK: With an average attendance of 24,252 in regular season home games, the Galaxy recorded the second highest attendance average in club history. In 2007, 363,782 fans came to see the Galaxy's 15 regular season games at The Home Depot Center, up more than 30,000 from a year prior. Since moving into The Home Depot Center in 2003, the Galaxy's best season in terms of attendance had been in 2005 when they averaged 24,204 fans per contest. The Galaxy's single season attendance record came in the inaugural 1996 campaign when nearly 500,000 fans showed up for the Galaxy's 16 home games for an average of 28,916, a figure which is still the highest in MLS history.
