David Ousted - VAN - reaching out to teammate after allowing goal in ACC 2016 v. TOR - 6-29-16

Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted has taken the blame for the shocking goal that gave Toronto FC the Amway Canadian Championship title against the Whitecaps at BC Place on Wednesday night.

According to The Province’s Marc Weber, Ousted took full responsibility for Will Johnson’s 95th minute goal that gave TFC the away goal they needed to down the ‘Caps and lift their fifth Voyageurs Cup.

“I’ll come out and say it, I cost us that one, I cost us the championship,” he said.

“It’s heart-wrenching right now.”

Trailing 2-0 in the second leg and 2-1 on aggregate, Toronto midfielder Tsubasa Endoh chipped a last-second long ball into the Vancouver box. Ousted came off his line in an attempt to catch it, but collided with defender Kendall Waston, who was attempting to head the ball to safety. The ball eventually fell to Johnson, who volleyed home with his left foot to win the series.

Ousted, who shared more thoughts about the play in Weber’s piece, also tweeted about the final play after the match:

Vancouver will return to action on Monday at LA.
