US Soccer to hold US Open Cup semifinals and final draw Monday afternoon

U.S. Open Cup Trophy

The draw to determine hosts for the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals and hosting priority for the final has been rescheduled for 2 pm ET on Monday, U.S. Soccer announced late Saturday evening.

The final four survivors in this year’s edition of the historic tournament all hail from MLS: the Chicago Fire and Philadelphia Union on the East side of the bracket and the Houston Dynamo and LAFC in the West.

Originally scheduled for last Thursday, the draw was postponed due to a protest filed by the Portland Timbers in relation to the number of foreign players fielded by LAFC during their quarterfinal matchup at Banc of California Stadium, which the hosts won 3-2.

The Timbers withdrew their protest on Saturday after the federation “determined that the inclusion of additional foreign players was a result of a good faith misunderstanding among U.S. Soccer, Major League Soccer and Los Angeles Football Club,” according to a statement released by USSF.
