The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup returns on Wednesday for its third round of action, and the regional rivalries will continue as more amateur sides look to upset their professional competitors.
Seven amateur teams will continue on as the tournament gets a bit tougher with NASL clubs entering the field. Teams from the fourth tier or lower looking to notch upsets include Lansdowne Bhoys FC, Jersey Express, Chattanooga FC, Des Moines Menace and Kitsap Pumas.
Meanwhile, Southern California sides LA Wolves and La Máquina will face off, ensuring at least one amateur club will advance to face the LA Galaxy. The third round of Open Cup competition is the last before MLS clubs enter the fray, and pairings for the fourth round, which includes at least one matchup between MLS clubs, are already set.
A new local derby will take place in the third round, as NASL's Rayo OKC host USL's OKC Energy in the crosstown teams' first-ever meeting.
