Cup season is right around the corner and on Thursday, US Soccer announced the pairings for the Play-in, First, and Second Round matchups for the 102nd Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
The Open Cup is the United States' longest-running soccer competition, and the latest edition will kick off on the afternoon April 25 when 2012 surprise packages Cal FC travel to take on first-time entrants San Francisco City FC at the city's historic Kezar Stadium.
The First Round will then start on May 13 and the Second Round will follow on May 20. MLS sides will enter the tournament in the Fourth Round, which is set to begin on June 16.
A total of 91 teams will be competing in the tournament, which marks the largest field in the modern era (1995-present) and the fourth consecutive year that has seen a participation record set. The Seattle Sounders are the defending champions, having won their fourth title in six years with an extratime victory over the Philadelphia Union. The Sounders' latest title matches the Chicago Fire's MLS-best four victories, and both outfits will have the chance to tie the all-time record of five, currently shared between Bethlehem Steel and Maccabi Los Angeles.
