US men's national team teen Sergino Dest named Ajax Talent of the Year

Sergino Dest - U-20 World Cup - Close up

One of the US men's national team's most intriguing young prospects has been given a prestigious individual award, as Sergino Dest has been named Ajax's Talent of the Year, the club announced Friday.

The Talent of the Year award is given annually to the Dutch giants' best young player. Past winners include Christian Eriksen, Mathijs De Ligt, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. Dest is the first American player to ever receive the honor.

The 19-year-old right back is considered one of the most skilled up-and-coming players for the USMNT after his well-publicized decision to continue representing the US instead of the Netherlands in Oct. 2019. Dest currently has three senior caps and has made 20 appearances for Ajax's first team.

Dest wasn't the only American to get a trophy on Friday, as the Belgium Pro League announced that is has officially cancelled the remainder of its season and awarded the country's top flight title to Club Brugge, which was atop the table at 70 points at the time of the season's postponement. Club Brugge's roster includes American goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, who made two appearances this year and has played in 49 games for the Belgian side since 2017. Horvath has also featured for the US U-20s and U-23s and has four senior caps since debuting in 2016.

While Horvath's season is over, several American players will be back in action starting on Saturday as Germany's Bundesliga resumes play. Fans can catch former Columbus Crew SC man Zack Steffen's Fortuna Dusseldorf side taking on Paderborn, as well as former New York Red Bulls star Tyler Adams and his RB Leipzig side take on Freiburg on Saturday at 9:30 am ET. USMNT striker Josh Sargent of Werder Bremen will face off against Bayer Leverkusen at 2:30 pm ET on Monday.
