Union's John McCarthy earns Save of the Week honors for Week 19

Starting for the first time this season, John McCarthy proved more than capable of filling in for 2016 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake last Wednesday.

McCarthy made six stops in a 1-1 draw at Sporting Kansas City, including a sprawling stop of Daniel Salloi's 28th-minute rocket that earned him Week 19 Save of the Week honors. McCarthy eventually conceded to Diego Rubio, but Roland Alberg's penalty helped the Union earn a share of the spoils in one of MLS's toughest away venues.

McCarthy was the clear winner with 63 percent of the vote, besting the Seattle Sounders' Stefan Frei, who received 31 percent of the vote for his stop in a 3-1 loss at the Colorado Rapids. The LA Galaxy's Clement Diop was also in the running with two separate stops, as was FC Dallas' Jesse Gonzalez.
