Toronto FC deals for Dunivant

Toronto FC announced Wednesday that they have acquired defender Todd Dunivant from the New York Red Bulls in exchange for defender Kevin Goldthwaite.

"We're very excited about bringing in Todd, he's a quality player," said Head Coach Mo Johnston. "I've been after him since the draft, really, he was our number one choice, and we're looking forward to showing our fans what Todd can do."

Dunivant, 26, joins Toronto in his 5th MLS season. He was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes with the sixth overall pick in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. While with the team in 2004, he was named co-winner of Earthquakes U.S. Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year.

In 2005, Dunivant was traded to the L.A. Galaxy and became the first player in their history to play every minute of each of their 32 MLS regular season games, as well as their 5 MLS playoff games.

Sixteen games into the 2006 season; Dunivant was traded to the New York Red Bulls, making his debut on July 19th at Columbus.

Internationally, the defender has made two appearances for the U.S. National team.

Dunivant attended Stanford University and earned First Team All Pac-10 honors for 3 seasons.

Goldthwaite was acquired from the Houston Dynamo on April 19th in a deal that saw midfielder Richard Mulrooney head to the Dynamo. The 24 year old started in 9 games since joining Toronto FC, playing 801 minutes and scoring one goal, and adding an assist.

Toronto FC's next game is Sunday July 1st when they travel to Kansas City to take on the Wizards (6-4-2).
