San Jose to host Fire in home opener

The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team will play its 2008 Major League Soccer Season home opener on Saturday April 12, 2008 against the Chicago Fire and Cuauhtémoc Blanco. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. PT at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland.


This marks the first time the two-time MLS Cup Champions, San Jose Earthquakes, will return to play after two years of absence. All records of the previous Earthquakes will remain intact.


"We are very excited to announce our 2008 home opener against the Chicago Fire and a world-class player like Cuauhtémoc Blanco," stated David Alioto, Executive Vice President for the San Jose Earthquakes. "Earthquakes fans have been waiting for this day for a long time to see the return of their San Jose Earthquakes."


The Earthquakes and the Fire have played in the Bay Area 11 games where the Earthquakes hold a 5-3-3 advantage.
