Revolution trade Joe Franchino to Galaxy

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution today traded midfielder/defender Joe Franchino to the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for L.A.'s second-round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft.

Franchino, 31, has appeared in 211 career Major League Soccer games, including 162 with the Revolution. He began his career with the Galaxy in 1998 when L.A. drafted him out of Washington in the third round (30th overall) of the MLS College Draft. Franchino came to New England in 2000 through the MLS Special Draft.

"We want to thank Joe for all of his contributions to our success since his arrival in New England in 2000," Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns said. "We wish him the best of luck in Los Angeles."

Franchino has scored five career goals - all in New England - and has added 23 assists, including 16 with the Revs. A native of Fontana, Calif., he has been a member of five teams that have played in MLS Cup championship matches.

The Revolution (2-2-0, 6 pts.) returns to action on Saturday, April 19, when the team travels to face the New York Red Bulls (1-1-0, 3 pts.) at 7:30 p.m. at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. TV38 will televise the game regionally, while HDNet will carry the game in nationally. The WEEI Radio Network will also broadcast the game in New England.
