The Portland Timbers appear close to finalizing the acquisition of Paraguayan midfielder Cristhian Paredes from Club América, with The Oregonian Monday reporting that the former youth international had joined the MLS side to take a physical.

Club América manager Miguel Herrera also indicated to assembled media at the Liga MX side's training session on Monday that the 19-year-old was not with the club and had joined Portland.

Paredes made 30 league appearances with Paraguayan side Sol de América during 2016 season, his first pro season, but hasn't seen much action since making the move to Mexico. He was linked to Portland in reports last week.

The Timbers have been busy bolstering their midfield over the past week, adding former D.C. United academy player Eryk Williamson in a trade and signing former New York Cosmos midfielder Andres Flores.
