Yony Gonzalez celebration - Fluminense

The LA Galaxy are set to sign Colombian winger Yony Gonzalez on loan with a purchase option from Benfica, according to reports.

The 26-year-old joined the Portuguese powerhouse in January, but was quickly loaned to Corinthians in Brazil for the remainder of the season. Colombian outlet El Deportivo.com reports Gonzalez is considered surplus at Benfica.

Gonzalez, who only appeared once for Corinthians and has yet to feature for Benfica, has been unable to replicate the success he had in his first Brasileirão experience with Fluminese, where he had nine goals and five assists in 42 appearances. He moved there from Junior Barranquilla in his native Colombia, where he scored nine goals and set up two others in 51 appearances.

Gonzalez, who has played on the right wing and as a forward, scored once in the Copa Libertadores and four times in Copa Sudamericana for Junior.

Gonzalez also featured for the Colombian U-23 national team.
