The Vancouver Whitecaps have been linked with another player from a Portuguese giant.

According to Pedro Sepulveda of Portuguese news station SIC Noticias, Vancouver are in negotiations with Sporting CP over signing right back Bruno Gaspar on loan with a purchase option of around $1.75 million.

Gaspar, 27, joined Sporting ahead of the 2018-19 season and has made 30 appearances for the club. He spent 2019-20 on loan with Olympiakos in Greece.

Gaspar came through the famed Benfica academy before moving to Vitoria Guimarães. He was a regular with Portuguese youth national teams but recently switched affiliations to Angola, where he's made a handful of appearances.

Longtime Whitecap Jake Nerwinski has been the club's starting right back for a few seasons, while first round SuperDraft selection Javain Brown is also a right back.

Earlier this offseason, Vancouver were been linked with Benfica's Chiquinho and Porto's Otavio. They have also signed Colombian youth international Dieber Caicedo.
