Could the US national team be looking south in a post-World Cup friendly this fall?

The USMNT will reportedly play Ecuador in a friendly during a FIFA date in October. The venue and exact date have not been revealed.

On La Tri's side, it appears to be a done deal, as the Ecuadorian Football Federation reported the friendly against the US among several fall friendlies on its official website on Wednesday.

But a US Soccer spokesperson did not confirm an upcoming meeting against the South Americans. The spokesperson told MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday, "We are talking to a number of federations about possible matches later this year in the US that would be played on FIFA international calendar dates."

Ecuador, like the US, participated in the recent World Cup in Brazil. In a group with France, Switzerland, and Honduras, they finished with a 1-1-1 record and did not advance from the group stage. One MLS player, Chivas USA's Oswaldo Minda, featured for Ecuador in the tournament.

Since 1984, the US have a 2-5-4 record against Ecuador, with their last meeting, a friendly in October 2011 at Red Bull Arena, resulting in a 1-0 loss for the Americans.
