Sebastian Velasquez appears to be headed for a reunion with his old head coach Jason Kreis.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Thursday that Real Salt Lake’s 23-year-old midfielder has been traded to New York City FC, where Kreis is now the head coach after his departure from RSL after the 2013 season, in exchange for allocation money. In the report, RSL technical director Craig Waibel confirmed the deal, though it has not yet been officially announced.

Velasquez played a key role in RSL’s run to the 2013 MLS Cup title game under Kreis, playing in all five of their postseason games, with two starts, and scoring his first career goal in their 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy in the second leg of a Western Conference semifinal.

But under new head coach Jeff Cassar, Velasquez made just 10 appearances, one start, with a goal and two assists.

The trade marks another move in what has become a busy offseason for the team that fell to the Galaxy in the Western Conference semifinals this past season. Other mainstays to have been moved include defensive leader Nat Borchers, midfielder Ned Grabavoy, defender Chris Wingert and forward Robbie Findley
