Report: Nacional de Montevideo announce Carlos Valdes set to sign on loan from Philadelphia Union

With various reports linking Philadelphia Union defender Carlos Valdes with a move to South America, the team that he appears to be headed to has made announcements about the player's immediate future.

Nacional de Montevideo announced on their official website on Wednesday that Valdes will arrive in Uruguay on Thursday to make a one-year loan to the club official. According to Nacional, the deal will include an option to purchase the player outright.

In addition, Nacional executive Luis Bruno appeared on Fox Sports Uruguay on Wednesday to discuss the acquisition of Valdes. In addition to the loan and buyout clause, Bruno explained that Valdes would also have the option of possibly heading to another league after six months.

The 29-year-old joined the Union in 2011, and impressed in his first two seasons in Philadelphia, including being named an MLS All-Star in 2012. He then went on loan to Colombian side Santa Fe for the 2013 season, and Argentina's San Lorenzo for the first part of 2014, and participated in the 2014 World Cup as a member of Colombia's squad. After returning to the Union following the World Cup, he made eight appearances last season.

Last month, Union technical director Chris Albright confirmed there was "a negotiation ongoing" concerning Valdes, but stressed at the time that there was no final deal in place.
