Report: Kemar Lawrence requests trade away from New York Red Bulls

Kemar Lawrence - New York Red Bulls - Close up

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Kemar Lawrence has been a mainstay in the New York Red Bulls' defense the past five years, but could he be departing the club before long?

A new report suggests it's possible, as Ives Galarcep reported in SBI Soccer on Monday that Lawrence has requested a trade away from the Red Bulls this offseason, owing to dissatisfaction with his current contract ā€” which reportedly has another two years guaranteed and another option year ā€” as well as a reported lack of interest on New York's part to negotiate a new deal.

Lawrence, 27, joined the Red Bulls from Jamaican club Harbour View FC in early 2015. The left back has been regarded as one of the best in his position ā€” in MLS and perhaps in Concacaf overall ā€” throughout his stint stateside, culminating in an MLS Best XI selection in 2018 and an MLS All-Star selection in 2019, while winning two Supporters' Shields. The Jamaican national team player also has extensive experience on the international stage, including at the Copa America and back-to-back Concacaf Gold Cup finalist finishes in 2015 and 2017.
