FC Cincinnati continue to be linked to players from near and far as they gear up for their 2019 MLS expansion debut, the latest of which is a savvy attacker with World Cup and Copa America pedigree.

Chile international Matias Fernandez is on Cincy’s radar, according to Chilean publicationsLa Estrella and La Cuarta. FCC president and GM Jeff Berding is alleged to have made contact with the 32-year-old playmaker, who’s currently on the books at Liga MX side Necaxa, where he helped Los Rayos win Copa MX during the 2018 Clausura campaign.

A key member of La Roja’s 2010 World Cup and 2015 Copa America sides – they won the latter tournament – Fernandez (pictured above, at right) also carries a hefty club resume with stints at Colo-Colo, Spain's Villarreal and Italian outfit Fiorentina.

League sources confirmed Cincinnati’s interest to MLSsoccer.com, but there’s probably ample work to be done if Fernandez is to wind up in orange and blue next season; he’s reportedly under contract with Necaxa until June 2019.
