Red Bull New York names Bob Montgomery as director of youth development

SECAUCUS, NJ:
Red Bull New York announced today that Bob Montgomery will be the organization's Director of Youth Development effective September 1, 2007. Montgomery will oversee the Red Bulls Player Development System, including RBNY's Academy and Grassroots Training Program.

"Bob brings a wealth of experience and leadership to a position that will be extremely important in the future development of Red Bull players," said Red Bull New York Technical Director Jeff Agoos. "We are extremely excited to include Bob as a resource in our organization."

"I'm very excited to become the team's new Director of Youth Development. Red Bull New York is known to do everything first class and I believe we will help the development of youth soccer in the metropolitan New York-New Jersey area and influence the development on the national level as well," Montgomery said. "With the addition of the new training facility, the Red Bulls and the players of the future will have the best resources available to help their development. We're looking to make this an elite program and set the standard for other organizations to follow across the county."

Montgomery was most recently the head men's soccer coach at Adelphi University, where he led the Panthers for 29 seasons. Posting a 258-224-39 record, Montgomery guided a program that had consistently been in the top 25 in the country. He had taken seven of his teams to the NCAA tournament and his 1987 squad made it all the way to the quarterfinals. Recently, Montgomery led the Panthers to their first Atlantic Soccer Conference regular season and tournament titles, as he won Coach of the Year honors and the team earned an NCAA berth. Montgomery has also served as an Associate Athletic Director since 1989, where he was responsible for compliance and eligibility for over 250 Adelphi athletics.

The 1990 New York State Coach of the Year and Adelphi University Athletic Hall of Fame member became involved with the U.S. Youth Soccer Association in 1985 and coached top players from ages ranging from 12 to 19 in Region I.

Montgomery attended Nassau Community College before transferring to Adelphi. He was a defender for the Panthers from 1972-73 and went on to receive his bachelor's degree (1975) and master's degree (1984) from Adelphi. Montgomery is married to wife Jennifer and he has three daughters, Jessica, Danielle and Stephanie.
